Five of the Many Things that the Bible has to Say about Communicating with Others

I am currently reading “The Language of Love and Respect” by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs.  This prompted me to look at what the Bible had to say about communicating with others.   Below is a just a small sampling of what the Bible has to say:

1) Communicate with love toward others in your words and deeds.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing one another in love.” ~Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)

2) Let your communication with others be pleasant and healing.

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” ~Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)

3) As Covey says: “Seek first to understand, and then to be understood.”

“He that answers before listening – that is his folly and his shame” ~Proverbs 18:13 (NIV)

4) Be wise in your communication; don’t have the heart of a fool.

“The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools” ~Proverbs 15:7 (NIV)

5) Carefully weigh you answers; don’t respond in an angry manner intended to do harm.

“The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. ~Proverbs 15:28 (NIV)

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs’ “Love and Respect” conference was life changing. I’ll have to get my hands on that book.
In the age of blogs and Twitter, I’ve been thinking a lot about communication in the professional world. Your post is a great primer.
